More Power, Less Sense

Truth is this, we cannot stop talking about this. The floods and filth in Accra. We’ve been at it for many years. We have talked a lot and acted very little. Our president, H.E. Nana Addo  Dankwa Akufo-Addo has stoked the fires. He says he would make Accra the cleanest city in Africa. More talk.

More than three years after the ‘June 3’ disaster, the National Disaster Management Organisation (NADMO), says it’s now drafting a legislative instrument to seek more powers to enable them execute their mandate. Basically, the LI will emanate from parliament for the approval of cabinet. What it will essentially do, is to give NADMO the authority to pull down structures in waterways. Now, this comes in the wake of another flood that has been reported to claim about ten lives including that of a young medical doctor.

Look, what we need in this country; and NADMO needs a huge dose of that; is common sense, not more power.

It’s exhausting getting angry at the ineptitude of people whose lives we make comfortable (with our tax money), so that they can think and solve our problems.

We shall keep talking, regardless.
