Of Intransigent Leadership and Tired Shoulders

The events that eventually culminated in the riots in KNUST in the last couple of days, have one underlining factor; intransigence.

Many things have happened in the lead up to the chaos we saw. A proactive university leadership would have adopted a more conciliatory approach to avert the disturbances. Sadly, the VC and his team chose to be adamant and adopt a confrontational strategy.

Now, the university PR system is at pains to spin the facts to cause disaffection for a certain group of students and alumni. That sadly won’t fly.

This was a completely avoidable situation. The students were tired of being suppressed. The VC’s intransigence didn’t help matters. May we never get here again. We should be thinking and planning forward.
